COVID-19 Safety Measures

A message for our patients:

The Eye Center at Southern College of Optometry is committed to working with our patients during the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep us all safe. Until further notice, please keep in mind these important safety measures:

  • Appointments are required
  • Only a patient with an appointment can enter the facility at their appointed time; one adult may accompany a child, a senior citizen, or another patient requiring assistance
  • All patients  age 2 or older must wear a mask
  • Patients who arrive without a mask will be given one
  • Patients will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms
  • Patients may pre-screen and show the results of the screening questionnaire at this site: www.apple.com/covid19
  • Additional screening and temperature checks will be performed
  • Patients will be required to use hand sanitizer as provided during the screening process
  • Patients should social distance 6 feet apart with no handshaking or personal contact
  • Payment co-pays will be collected at check-in
  • Doctors, interns and others involved in patient care will use masks, gowns, sneeze guards, and other personal protective equipment as needed
  • Patients may not pick up or try on frames unassisted
  • All equipment and frames will be cleaned and disinfected several times a day by our staff, including before and after each patient
  • All frames will be additionally sterilized by UV light each evening
  • Spectacle frame selection for pediatric and teen patients will take place in their exam rooms
  • Disposable gloves may be provided for some vision therapy or low vision devices involving touch
  • Frame adjustments, repairs, and dispensing of glasses will be performed by schedule only
  • New spectacle or contact lens orders may be shipped to a patient's home address.
  • No food or drink
  • Several service areas will have limits for small numbers of people in those areas at any given time
  • Other specific instructions may be communicated for patients in advance or during your visit

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance as we work to provide your care in the safest manner possible.
