Cynthia Heard, O.D.
Adult Primary Care, Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation
Dr. Cynthia G. Heard sees patients in the Vision Therapy & Rehabilitation and Adult Primary Care Services in The Eye Center at Southern College of Optometry. Her clinical interests include diabetes patient education, nutrition and eye health, eye disease management, and new drug development for eye conditions. Dr. Heard lectures on such topics periodically at local and national meetings.
Dr. Heard is a Professor of Optometry. She teaches clinical techniques for diagnosis of eye conditions and analysis of patient care in small-group format. She supervises the Low Vision Residency Program at SCO.
Dr. Heard has authored a drug guide for several years that provides drug information to assist the optometrist in successfully managing conditions specific to the eye.
Dr. Heard is a past president of the National Optometric Association (NOA), an organization that represents underrepresented minority optometrists in the US. She was NOA Optometrist of the Year in 1998.
Dr. Heard enjoys reading, watching movies, and visiting art galleries in her spare time.
