Alan Kabat, O.D.
Adult Primary Care, Advanced Care Ocular Disease
Dr. Alan Kabat is an honors graduate of Rutgers University and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He completed his residency training in 1991 at John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Philadelphia.
Prior to joining SCO, Dr. Kabat served for 20 years as faculty in the College of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, attaining the rank of Associate Professor and serving as Director of Externships and Director of Residency Programs. Currently, Dr. Kabat holds the rank of Professor at SCO, and serves as Staff Physician at The Eye Center in both the Advanced Care Ocular Disease Service and Adult Primary Care Service. He is an internationally recognized expert in the area of ocular disease management, although his primary area of interest is in dry eye and related disorders of the ocular surface.
Dr. Kabat has published well over 200 papers, book chapters and review articles in the optometric literature. He is Associate Clinical Editor for Review of Optometry, and serves on the editorial board of several other respected trade publications. Additionally, Dr. Kabat lectures regularly to colleagues on topics of ocular and oculosystemic disease, having been invited to speak in venues throughout the world.
Dr. Kabat is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) and the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians (TAOP), and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. He is also a founding member of the Optometric Dry Eye Society and charter member of the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry.
In his spare time, Dr. Kabat enjoys football, fishing and cooking.
